I accidentally posted my opinion on the bloodbone bolt on the bloodbone arrow page, oops. Not exactly a copy-paste as I got some numbers wrong, but my opinion hasn't changed.
Bloodbone bolts (BlB) are a really good alternative even if they're just a budget version of burred bolts (BuB).
BlBs only cost 110 runes per bolt ([300 runes for 2 thin beast bones + 800 for 1 bloodrose] / 10 bolts crafted) compared to the BuB's 200. That is 45% runes per bolt (1 - [110 / 200]).
Additionally, BlBs only deal 5 less physical damage than BuBs , meaning they only deal 17% less damage (1 - [25 / 30], rounded).
Finally, BlBs deal 15 less blood loss buildup than BuBs, for 23% less buildup (1 - [50 / 65], rounded).
For a little less than half the cost, you have bolts whose numbers are only a fifth worse than the premium version.

Oh dear. What was it? The mages? The moonveils? Or the horrible bleed? Oh it doesn't matter. It always comes down to the trusty sidearm to clean up after these sorts of messes. Tonight, the pulley crossbow joints the hunt.
